A Doula Is...
Someone who:
- Believes in you
- Helps you to get in touch with your changing body through pregnancy
- Holds the sacred space for you and your partner during birth
- Does not perform any clinical tasks
- Is flexible and adaptable to your needs and wishes
- Provides sustained physical, emotional and informative support to a woman and her partner before, during and after birth.

A doula is a mother's advocate in whatever situation she chooses to give birth, be it in hospital, at home, with medical intervention or without. This gives the mother and father a feeling of being safe and supported.
The unique holistic care a doula offers can free the father from experiencing unnecessary anxiety, allowing participation in the birth process at an acceptable comfort level - this gives peace of mind to the birthing mother knowing that their partner is not the sole support person. This also enables the father to take time out without feeling that their loved ones are left unsupported.

Doulas are experienced, compassionate women that are able to call on their own experience offering loving support to women at this most vulnerable yet powerful time in their lives.
