My Background

I am a married woman of 30yrs with 3 children. Having lived and worked in the USA for many years I have now settled back in the UK.
Having applied to do midwifery in 1998 I took a position as an auxiliary nurse at Torbay Hospital whilst waiting for my application. I worked on the general wards for a while then moved to maternity/labour. Whilst working there I heard about doulas and their holistic approach to birth - I knew straight away this was for me.
Having worked in the hospital environment and experienced first hand the amount of paperwork and admin required of midwives I felt it reduced the amount of emotional support vital to a new mum. I knew my calling was the 'doula way'.
I feel privileged and proud to be part of a service that empowers woman to be intouch with their bodies at all levels. To know I can give them continuity of care by 'being there' in any way they need me.
Practising and teaching yoga is a big part of my life. I qualified as a teacher in 1993 and hold classes of mixed ability; provide one to one yoga in pregnancy; one to one yoga for people with special needs and classes for wheelchair users.
